RE: No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, Section 1116
Dear Parent/Guardian:
To comply with the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, we are giving you timely notice that Lion of Judah Academy has been identified as being in School Improvement (SI). School Improvement means the school did not meet Ohio's goals in reading, mathematics or attendance for two consecutive years or more.
Lion of Judah Academy has been identified as in School Improvement status based on its performance in Math, Reading, Social Studies and Science. It is our intention to meet or exceed the improvement standards this school year so we may continue to serve your students next year and years to come.
Following the federal guidelines regarding the school's status, we are notifying you that you have the following options:
* You may continue to have your child attend Lion of Judah Academy (the same community school).
* Students may return to their home public school. No Public School Choice transportation is required to be offered for this option.
* Students may be eligible to attend Phoenix Village Academy, Citizens Academy, Cleveland Entrepreneurship Preparatory
School, most Constellation Schools or the Intergenerational School. These schools are not in School Improvement status (or have an
Effective rating for 08-09 school year) and have entered into an agreement to accept students. If required, free transportation will be
offered for your child. See the attachment for information about these schools' staff qualifications, special programs and facilities.
Choice is limited because there are few schools in the city of Cleveland that were Effective or better in the 2009-10 school year.
We still await the results for the 2010-11 school year.
* (Optional) As an alternative to Public School Choice, parents of students at Lion of Judah Academy may request Supplemental
Educational Services (free tutoring).
If you are interested, circle your selection above and send this request to Ms. Joyner, Principal of Operations, Lion of Judah
Academy, 1486 E. 55th St. Cleveland, OH 44103 by (9/23/11).

To move our school out of School Improvement status, we have looked at our data and developed a plan to help us achieve higher
levels of student performance. Our plan includes: 1. Working to improve the reading fluency of each student; 2. Administering Practice Ohio Achievement Tests each Friday to determine how much each student has learned; 3. Analyzing scores for each State
Indicator in the state standards and helping each student strengthen their skills).
We welcome your participation in our academic school improvement efforts. If you would like more information on how you can
help us improve our school, please contact Mrs. Watts for grades K-3 or Mr. Holdren for grades 4-8 at 216-881-9200 and/or
admin@lojacademy.org. We hope that you all choose to remain with LOJ Academy as your community school of choice.
Sincerely,
Romey Coles, Jr. | Chester Starks, Jr.
